Linear Tape-Open (LTO) is a tape storage technology collaboratively developed by HP, IBM and Seagate Technology.
LTO-5 was published in 2010 by the Linear Tape-Open Consortium.
The capacity for the LTO-5 tape drive is 1.5 TB (3 TB compressed) and has a data transfer rate of up to 280 MB per second (compressed).
The LTO-5 generation first added partitioning to improve file control and space management (with LTFS).
